UNISON GREEN WEEK AND GLOBAL ACTION
Unison are having a Green week ahead of the Global Action of school strikes on climate change on Friday 20th September.
This is a week where we urge you to reflect on your workplace in terms of environmental impact. Do they recycle, divested from pensions that invest in fossil fuels, do they have an environmental policy ..........there are so many ways to become more green as a company, does your workplace know that's important to you?
The School Strike starts a global week of action on climate change from 20th - 27th September. For more information see link below.
Ipswich are starting their schools strike on the Cornhill outside the town hall at noon on Friday 20th September, there is a march route planned. For more details on times and route please see links below.
We are aware that many of our members are anxious to join in with this action and to highlight the issues around the climate emergency.
Whilst as a union we can not support you in striking on this directly, as unions strike for work related matters only, we are not saying you can not join in.
Unison vice president said " because of anti trade union laws members can not support the global strike in their paid time ".
But nothing prevents members from coming to the Cornhill in their lunch break.
At the TUC conference it was agreed to support a " 30 minute work day campaign action in Solidarity for the 20th".
We urge you to come along and join in the strike during your lunch hour, or talk to your employer about the possibility of using holiday , TOIL , or even some employers are allowing staff unpaid leave so that they can join the action.
Even if you can not make the event , please join in thought social media.
School students are fighting for their futures, so we must stand up and ensure they are not fighting alone.
We would love to hear from other members who are concerned about the Climate Emergency. Get in touch with the branch who will put you in touch with either Polly and Josie.

On Saturday 6th July, my colleague Caron Mullins and I piloted the menopause workshop in Chelmsford. It was a huge success, with all attendees stating that they would like this in their workplaces.
Since the workshop was mentioned on twitter: https://twitter.com/unisoneastern/status/1147589091229388801?s=12 Caron and I have been inundated with requests to take these into many more workplaces.
It would be great to get this it into Suffolk schools or other workplaces, if you are interested please can you kindly contact the branch office: email@example.com or call: 01473 263100
